Common Carp World Record
Hi, this is a very big common carp caught at . I’m not sure what the world record is. The record as displayed on http://www.fishermansview.com/freshwater_world_records_for_fish.htm for common carp is 75lbs 11oz.

“That’s Dieter Markus Stein, setting the new world record for largest common carp hooked and landed, on December 17, 2006 in Germany.” (83 lb)

Biggest Ever Catfish
This catfish weighing in at 646 Pounds (293 kilograms) may be the largest ever recorded freshwater fish. At a whopping nine feet long (2.7 Metres) it’s easy to believe. This specie is a Mekong Giant Catfish, known as the largest catfish specie in the world.

If you do know of a bigger one, please share.
Hooked on Catfish
Catfish (order Siluriformes) are a very diverse group of bony fish with the biggest ones being the Mekong from Southeast Asia.

While prowling for big bass we usually drop a few hand lines for a possible catfish. We’ve been catching bigger and bigger catfish, but never really experienced the real fight with a hand line. So naturally we all went out and bought some cheap combo’s, spinning reels, to experience a real fight.
Here are a few tips on catching catfish.
Rigging Methods
You can use different rigging methods, but remember to use a sliding weight. A sliding weight will not alarm the catfish to “irregularities” in his next meal until it’s too late. You can also go for the infamous multibait technique. This way you can fight five catfish on a cheap spinning reel, what a rush.
Bait
My favourite is the chicken liver. Affordable, easy to rig and unbelievably smelly, when left in the son for a few hours. You can use the pantyhose method or a simple wrap-around with some stretchy elastic. There’s also the shrimp, dead fish, dead chickens, dead cows or even catfish paste.
If you have difficulty finding the catfish, use a chumming technique with any of the baits mentioned above. The cows might be a problem. Remember to hook the same bait you used for chumming.
Extra:
If you’re looking for a good fight use a lighter combo set, but with a strong line. Most good combos should be able to handle the normal size catfish. The line is usually the problem.

Bass Fishing Tips
No matter how experienced you are as fishermen, you should always be willing (and trying!) to get your hands on some good tips on how to catch your favorite fish. The true test of the fishing tip lies in a) the source, b) it’s proven success and c) it helping you in catching more fish! What works for you might not be what works for someone else. Worse yet – what doesn’t work for you (but you think it does) gives all the fish to someone else.
Good Bass Fishing Tips
There are lots fishing tips that are floating around with special emphasis on catching bass. One of the most important tips however (not only for bass fishing but for any other species) is that the fisherman has to be extremely familiar with the fish he/she wants to catch. If you are fishing for bass, you should know where they live, what they eat, where they like to frequent and why, how to locate them in the morning and at night, and the best way to attract them. This may be precisely what you are looking for. This is where the research comes in on finding those bass fishing tips.
Bass Fishing Tip #1
You cannot fish for bass, or any other fish, unless you are comfortable with the location / destination the fishing for that species takes place. For example, there is specific type of bass called the Peacock Bass that lives in the Amazon River. If you want to catch it, pack your bags and head to the Amazons because you won’t find it anywhere else. So, know where your fish live before you attempt to start catching them somewhere they don’t swim. Believe it or not, simple mistakes like not knowing where the bass you’re fishing for is not uncommon. Don’t be the dummy!
Bass fishing Tip #3
Summer is the season for fishing, especially for bass fishing. It’s just too bad that summer boating, hot tempratures, etc. make bass fishing more difficult. But if you’re a goal setter and a die-hard fisherman set on catching some great bass, you will have to plan a trip to your summer destination… like Florida – or at least some place where the bass live and you can take your pick. They will be following the crayfish which is their favorite food. If you have a well known spot or place you always enjoy fishing then take advantage! Steer clear of popular boating areas that scare the fish away. If you do not, I would recommend looking at one of the fishing guides we’ve reviewed – lots of great information to get you on your way.
Bass Fishing Tip #4
Unless you have a fair idea of what you are doing, no matter how many fish are in the sea, you won’t be able to catch one of them. They guy next to you who’s been fishing since he was 5 with his father and grandfather will be catching everything you’re not. You should know how to use each and every piece in your angling box; carrying with you adequate lures and live bait which are ONLY for bass. The method of fishing, your style of fishing and the fishing implements you carry will have to complement one another perfectly if you want to have an easy and enjoyable time bass fishing.
There is a lot to learn, so be patient, it will come. I congratulate you on taking the first steps to learning great new tips on making your perfect catch. For more tips, have a look at the bass fishing guides we’ve reviewed – these are a great start to getting you on your way to catching all the bass you can dream of. Good luck and happy fishing!

Daiwa introduced a range of new T.D Zillion Baitcasters which is specifically designed for crankbait fishing. With a 4.9:1 retrieve, which offers a slower retrieve speed.

With six ball bearings and a sturdy one piece frame the reel offers a lot of power with easy handling. Really easy long casting and a nice overall feel.
With a suggested retail price range of 150-270$ it’s something to save up for.
Bass Fishing
It seems when you mention bass fishing these days, particularly amongst a group of people, it’s the catalyst for instant conversation. You don’t believe me…try it!
Bass fishing has literally exploded in popularity since the 1950′s. From it’s humble beginnings as basically a fish hunted for food, bass has evolved into the second most sought after sporting fish in the world. And if you think bass fishing is only popular in the United States, think again. The Largemouth Bass has been introduced to countries such as Japan and South Africa who have active stocking programs in place to ensure the species’ survival. Bass Fishing also received an international boost several years ago when a Japanese angler took out the prized Bassmaster Classic Title. I think then, America’s bass fishing angling population realised their prized fish had come of age internationally.
Bass fishing today is a multi-billion dollar industry. When you take into account there is bass fishing equipment, bass fishing gear, the trusty bass fishing boat, bass fishing baits… and the list goes on, you start to see the bigger picture. Not to mention the boost bass fishing destinations receive when there is an influx of anglers in town all trying to land themselves that prized monster bass.
Largemouth bass or Oswego bass, Smallmouth bass, Kentucky bass, Striped bass… as long as it’s bass then you are sure to attract an angling crowd. Popular destinations in the USA include Alabama, Florida and California. Bass fishing in Alabama and bass fishing in Florida are just about a national past time. California you say… that’s right, bass fishing in California would you believe, is just booming. In fact, it’s so popular that there is talk that Disneyland may have to be moved. Just kidding! But seriously though, this fish they call bass is extremely popular just about anywhere you travel in the United States and no offence intended to other states for mentioning the above three.
In fact, if you love to cast a line and you’re planning a trip somewhere in the US that has a waterway with bass in it, then get in touch with the local city or tourist office and get the “lowdown” on where the bass are biting in that area. I’m sure they will be more than helpful however, I’m not too sure the locals will want to part with any insider information…if you know what I mean.
